"Celebra La Vida Con Salud,"
Hispanic Health Fair Tour 2005

FDA's Center for Food safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN), along with such other agencies of the Department of Health and Human Services as the National Institutes of Health and the Office of Minority Health, are exhibiting and distributing bilingual food safety materials at a series of ten health fairs, held on Sundays in areas of large Hispanic populations. In conjunction with the fairs, this initiative features Latino radio coverage of key health issues by health experts and well-known Latino radio personalities, as well as a dedicated web site featuring additional health information.

The principal goal of this initiative is to provide preventive, action-driven information to Latinos across the country. CFSAN's objectives, in its third year of participation in these fairs, are to:

• Provide the Hispanic community with credible health information and resources regarding critical food safety issues,
• Heighten awareness through the broadcast campaign to such critical issues in the Latino community as the prevention of listeriosis associated with products made with unpasteurized milk.

In 2004, the Celebra tour visited 10 high-density Hispanic markets, reaching 21,000 Latinos in partnership with 25 clinics and hospitals. The 21 health education PSA's aired by partner radio stations reached a potential audience of nearly 60 million people and more than 594,000 people visited the Celebra la Vida Con Salud web site.
