NIOSH Mining Safety and Health Research

The Explosives Program conducts research on the safety of explosives in storage, transportation, and use.

Explosives research has been a major part of the NIOSH research program. Over the years, we have developed unique facilities for explosives research and are recognized as a world leader in this area. We have also conducted a significant amount of research in cooperation with the Mine Safety and Health Administration, the U.S. Department of Transportation, the U.S. Department of Defense, and others.
