• Nutrition and Physical Activity Information
  CDC supports states with programs to promote a healthy diet. This includes the Fruits and Veggies: More Matters program to help people eat more fruits and vegetables. Eating a diet high in fruits and vegetables may help protect against lung cancer.



• National Program of Cancer Registries and the National Vital Statistics System have important information on the rates of developing and dying from lung cancer.



• Guide to Community Preventive Services*
  The Guide to Community Preventive Services makes recommendations on how communities can improve tobacco control using tested methods.



• Smoking and Tobacco Use
  CDC works to reduce smoking in many ways. CDC gives technical support and funding for tobacco prevention and control programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Not smoking is the most important way people can protect against lung cancer.



• National Network of Tobacco Cessation Quitlines
  CDC is currently partnering with the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and states to support a national network of "quitlines." This makes free "quit smoking" support available by telephone to smokers anywhere in the United States. The toll-free number is 1-800-QUITNOW (1-800-784-8669).
