Transportation

 

The Natcher Conference Center, 45 Center Drive, is located on the main campus of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland. The NIH, like all Federal Government facilities, has security measures to ensure the safety of all employees, patients, and visitors.

All visitors entering the NIH campus must register at the Visitor's Center, show a photo ID, be prepared to have their personal belongings inspected, and go through a metal detection inspection (wand, magnetometer, etc).


Due to extremely limited visitor parking, you are strongly encouraged to take a taxi or public transportation to the NIH campus. The Natcher Conference Center is a 2-minute walk from the Medical Center Metro station, after a stop at the Visitor's Center.

   

 

 
 

Metrorail to NIH

Take the Red Line, and exit at the Medical Center Station. Metro is available from Reagan National Airport and Union Station.

From Ronald Reagan National Airport: From airport Terminals B and C, take the pedestrian bridge to the Metrorail's Reagan National Airport Station located on the Yellow and Blue Line. Take a Yellow Line train to Gallery Place or take a Blue Line train to Metro Center and transfer to the Red Line. On the Red Line, take a train toward Shady Grove or Grosvenor and exit at the Medical Center Station.

From Union Station: Union Station is located on the Red Line. Take a train toward Shady Grove or Grosvenor and exit at the Medical Center Station.

Taxi to NIH

From Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport: 12 miles to NIH; one way fare is approximately $40. From Dulles International Airport: 26 miles to NIH; one-way fare is approximately $50. From Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall Airport: 35 miles to NIH; one-way fare is approximately $70.

General Driving Directions to NIH

From the North: Take I-95 South to I-495 West (Silver Spring). Take Exit 34, Route 355/Rockville Pike South. Proceed for approximately 1.5 miles, then turn right onto South Drive, the main entrance to the NIH campus. Security will direct you to visitor parking and the Natcher Conference Center.

From the South: Take I-95 North to I-495 toward Bethesda/Rockville. Take Exit 34, Route 355/Rockville Pike South. Proceed for approximately 1.5 miles, then turn right onto South Drive, the main entrance to the NIH campus. Getting to Washington, DC

By Air

The Washington, DC area is served by three major airports: Ronald Reagan Washington National, Washington Dulles International, and Baltimore/Washington Thurgood Marshall International. Travel time from all three airports to the Bethesda-area hotels and the NIH campus is approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.

By Train

Union Station serves the Washington, DC area. It is approximately 45 minutes to Bethesda-area hotels and the NIH campus from the station.
