Region

ERS conducts economic analyses of farm structure, farm business and households, conservation practices, and rural amenities at the regional level. ERS research considers the differences in natural resources and economic opportunities among regions.

 Spotlights

Customized data summaries from ARMS—The annual Agricultural Resource Management Survey (ARMS) is the only national survey that provides observations of field-level farm practices, the economics of the farm business, and the characteristics of the American farm household—all collected in a representative sample.

What is Rural? —Researchers frequently use different definitions of rural in their research. This briefing room explains the current ERS and U.S. Census Bureau's concepts of rural and urban, and the Office and Management and Budget's definition of metropolitan areas.
