ERS measures, forecasts, and explains indicators of economic performance for the U.S. food and agricultural sectors, ranging from farm production to consumer choices to international trade. A major focus of ERS research is the economic impact of Federal policies on agricultural production and income, the environment, the rural economy, food consumption, and trade.

 Spotlights

USDA Agricultural Baseline Projections—The USDA baseline provides longrun (10-year) projections for the agricultural sector. Projections cover agricultural commodities, agricultural trade, and aggregate indicators of the sector, such as farm income and food prices.

Food Availability (Per Capita) Data System—ERS annually calculates the amounts of several hundred foods available for human consumption in the United States. The data system also tracks per capita servings (also known as per capita food intake data or loss-adjusted food supply data), and total nutrient availability (2004 data now available).
