GOV. RITTER, ROMER VISIT HOLLY TO VIEW TORNADO-RECOVERY EFFORTS AND THANK VOLUNTEERS

HOLLY -- Gov. Bill Ritter and former Gov. Roy Romer visited tornado-ravaged Holly on Saturday. Romer grew up in Holly.

During the two-hour visit, the two were briefef by local, state and federal officials on recovery efforts from the deadly March 28 tornado. Ritter also signed an executive order extending the amount of time that $1 million in state emergency aid will be available, from six months to a year.

Ritter and Romer met with about 20 members of the Holly Recovery Task Force. Ritter also thanked volunteers from the Salvation Army, American Red Cross, other relief organizations, the Small Business Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield presented Ritter with a $25,000 check made out to the Town of Holly for recovery efforts.

"I am extremely heartened by what I see here in Holly," Ritter said after inspecting travel trailers and mobile homes the state obtained from FEMA. "The people of Holly have pullled together and are rebuilding from what was an extremely tragic event. The state will continue to do everything it can to help."

"The people of Holly are strong souls," Romer said. "I have no doubt that my hometown will bounce back and be as strong as ever."
