Many workers are unaware of the potential hazards in their
work environment, which makes them more vulnerable to injury. The following
references aid in recognizing these hazards and the health effects associated with
carcinogens in the workplace.
-
NIOSH Pocket Guide to Chemical Hazards. National Institute for
Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) Publication No. 2005-151, (2005,
September). Presents key information and data in abbreviated or tabular
form for chemicals or substance groupings (e.g., manganese compounds,
tellurium compounds, inorganic tin compounds, etc.) that are found in the work environment.
-
Chemical Carcinogens. New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services,
Division of Epidemiology, Environmental and Occupational Health. Provides
a list of more than 160 chemical carcinogens for which the New Jersey
Department of Health and Senior Services has prepared Hazardous Substance Fact Sheets.
- Mechanism of Non-genotoxic Occupational Carcinogens.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), National Center for
Environmental Research.
- NIOSH Carcinogen List.
National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).
Provides a list of substances NIOSH considers to be potential
occupational carcinogens.
- NTP: Publications.
US Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), National Toxicology Program (NTP).
Provides access to the status and results of studies.
-
Report on Carcinogens (RoC). US Department of Health and Human Services
(DHHS), National Toxicology Program (NTP). Identifies and discusses
agents, substances, mixtures, or exposure circumstances that may pose a
hazard to human health by virtue of their carcinogenicity.
