The International Buyer Program (IBP) is a U.S. joint government-industry effort designed to increase U.S. export sales by promoting international attendance at major U.S. industry exhibitions. The IBP provides practical, hands-on assistance to U.S. exhibitors interested in exporting and making contacts with prospective qualified overseas trade partners. This assistance includes export counseling, marketing analysis, and matchmaking services.

IBP events provide a venue for U.S. firms to market their products and services to increased numbers of international buyers visiting IBP shows. U.S. Commercial Service Offices worldwide assist in promoting IBP events overseas to contacts in the local business and government community. Promotions focus particularly on business enterprises in the distribution field.

The IBP can lead to partnerships between U.S. exporters and international buyers by:

-> Increasing the number of international buyers visiting major U.S. trade exhibitions that display products and services with high export potential;

-> Providing U.S. firms likely to export with practical help and advice on finding overseas trade partners through their participation in domestic trade exhibitions; and,

-> Providing international buyers, prospective distributors and end-users with opportunities to visit the United States, view U.S. technology and products, and meet with prospective U.S. trading partners.

Through IBP, U.S. Commercial Service worldwide recruits more than 125,000 qualified foreign buyers, sales representatives, and business partners to U.S. trade shows each year.
