Tips for Safe and Sober Workplace Parties

With the holiday season upon us, employers have an opportunity to send a safe and sober message about workplace parties and drinking. In that spirit, the Department of Labor's Working Partners for an Alcohol- and Drug-Free Workplace program is offering a valuable online resource to help employers adopt a safe and responsible approach to their workplace celebrations. Featuring tips for planning sober work events, alcohol traffic safety facts, and state-specific driving law information, this helpful Web site addresses steps employers can take during the holiday season-and all year round-to help prevent impaired driving in their communities.

The National Addiction Professionals' Day was held September 20, 2006. This day coincides with National Recovery Month. Now is the time to plan to ensure counselors get the recognition of how important they are to the field of recovery and treatment. Without the powerful work of addiction counselors there is no addiction profession.
The National Association of Broadcasters has collaborated with SAMHSA to create a brochure for local broadcasters to address alcohol and drug addiction in their communities.
