  | Retaliatory Actions U.S. Retaliatory Actions: Under various mechanisms of U.S. law (such as Section 301) and international trade law (such as GATT Article XXVIII), the United States may impose trade sanctions on foreign countries that either violate trade agreements or otherwise maintain laws or practices that are unjustifiable and restrict U.S. commerce. Foreign Retaliatory Actions: When U.S. actions are found to violate WTO or other international trade laws, affected foreign countries may impose trade sanctions on U.S. exports. These measures may remain in place until the United States complies with WTO or international law or otherwise resolves the dispute with the affected foreign country(ies).
