A Partnership Between the NWS and USGS |
|
|
For Arkansas streams, river forecasts from the National
Weather Service are based, to a great extent, on data from the US
Geological Survey (USGS) and the Army Corps of Engineers (COE)
stream-gauging stations. These agencies operate most of their
stream-gages on a cooperative basis with other Federal, state, and
local agencies that fund individual gauging stations for
agency-specific projected regulatory needs. Reductions in
stream-gauging program funds, due to budget reductions for these
agencies or for cooperating agencies, usually require that some
stations be discontinued. |
