The State of North Carolina portal is a collaborative effort between the State’s Office of Information Technology Services and the Portal Governance Council chaired by Harry Payne, Chairman of the State’s Employment Security Commission. The new design of the state’s portal allows North Carolina government to enter the next generation of portals where citizens, businesses, students, visitors and state employees will be able to gain information and to perform different activities in a simple, direct way.

The Portal Governance Council has members from many state agencies who have spent countless hours developing a web portal that works for all.

The portal is based on the concept that North Carolina is a better place to be. It is sub-divided into the categories of a better place….to live, to play, to learn, to do business and for Government

The portal is designed to maximize the flexibility offered to users and to provide intuitive, easy to find access to information about state government. It is not necessary for a user of the site to know the name of a state agency to find the needed information, the information is categorized based on services that you use or types of information you need. The site also has a powerful search engine that enables you to type the name of the information you are seeking and you will be led to that page.
