The mission of the NCHHSTP Office of Health Disparities (OHD) is to improve the health of populations disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted diseases, tuberculosis and other related diseases and conditions and ultimately to reduce health disparities. These populations include: racial and ethnic minorities, women, incarcerated persons, sexual minorities and other persons disproportionately affected by these conditions.

OHD provides leadership in the integration of health disparities goals, objectives, and strategies in the development of policies and programs of NCHHSTP; coordinates and tracks health disparity activities within NCHHSTP; collaborates with the CDC Office of the Director, Coordinating Centers and other Centers, Institutes, and Offices on health disparity activities; develops partnerships with other federal agencies and non-governmental organizations working on similarly affected populations; supports research, surveillance, education, training, and program development to reduce health disparities; sponsors workgroups, meetings, and conferences related to health disparities; promotes a diverse public health workforce through support of internships, fellowships, training programs, and other activities; and works with the CDC Office of Minority Health and Health Disparities to monitor progress in meeting the four Executive Orders related to improving minority health. OHD also provides technical support to the Tuskegee University National Center for Bioethics in Research and Health Care and manages the Tuskegee Participants Health Benefits Program and related activities.
