Who We Are
The National Firearms Act (NFA) Branch is one of the branches composing the Firearms and Explosives Services Division, Office of Enforcement Programs and Services, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives, Department of Justice. The other branches in the division are: Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch, Federal Firearms Licensing Center, and Federal Explosives Licensing Center.
What We Do
The NFA Branch processes notices and applications to make, manufacture, import, transfer, register, export, and interstate transportation requests for NFA firearms. The Branch processes requests for changes of address or change to the description of a registered firearm and responds to requests for information regarding the NFA.
The NFA Branch processes the returns for payment of special (occupational) tax submitted by persons who wish to import, manufacture, or deal in NFA firearms and issues the special (occupational) tax stamps.
