VistA files are maintained locally at VA medical facilities. In some cases, the VA medical facilities within a VISN share a single VistA system.

Several VISNs have developed data warehouses to hold data extracted from their medical facilities' files only. These VISN data warehouses were locally designed to support the needs of VISN management and they vary in structure and content.
