Illness and Injury Surveillance
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) strives to ensure that work is conducted safely at each of its sites. Through the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE), DOE collects and analyzes information on illness and injuries to:
- assess the overall health of its workforce
- to identify those groups that may be at an increased risk for occupational illness or injury
ORISE's complex-wide approach to this initiative enhances DOE’s ability to manage worker health concerns quickly and effectively. ORISE:
- Maintains a network of established working relationships across the DOE complex to ensure success in retrieving, managing, and analyzing occupational records
- Remains current on all human protection requirements to ensure privacy and confidentiality of worker information
- Provides continuous QA feedback and process refinement to ensure high quality of data
- Assembles the right team of epidemiologists, statisticians, technical writers, information managers, and database managers
Health and Injury Surveillance of Active DOE Worker Populations
ORISE supports DOE's efforts to examine and analyze the occupational health records of more than 80,000 workers at 14 participating DOE sites and facilities.
Site-Specific Reports
DOE publishes annual illness and injury surveillance
reports for each site, dating back to the beginning of the program.
