Radiation Exposure Data Collection
and Dose Reconstruction
Epidemiologic research depends heavily upon large numbers of research participants and even greater quantities of data. The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) applies proven techniques for identifying data required for specific projects. We develop comprehensive plans for collecting, organizing, and managing that data. All of these steps are essential to achieving accurate results and conclusions.
U.S. Department of Energy’s Radiation Exposure Monitoring System (REMS)
ORISE provides the management and operational support for DOE's REMS, which is used to collect and analyze radiation exposure information reported for all DOE employees, contractors, and visitors.
U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s (NRC’s) Radiation Exposure Information Recording System (REIRS)
ORISE provides support for the NRC Radiation Exposure Information and Reporting System (REIRS). REIRS is a database containing all occupational radiation exposure records that have been submitted to the NRC.
Neutron Dose Reconstruction at Rocky Flats
ORISE staff and supporting subcontract staff read more than 87,000 neutron films and used this information to reconstruct the neutron doses for more than 5,300 energy employees at the Department of Energy Rocky Flats Plant.
