Outreach and Promotions

Just as certain health issues are specific to certain populations, so must be the messages related to those topics.

The Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) is respected by the National Library of Medicine, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other federal agencies for our ability to reach specialized communities with the type of information they need to improve their health and well-being.

We create resource materials that are culturally competent and are targeted to specific audiences. These materials are designed to reach groups according to their age, their ethnicity, their propensity to certain diseases or illnesses, and even more specific categories.

ORISE uses technology, training, and tools to disseminate the message as well as :

We have a solid network of partnerships and relationships with:

These groups help ORISE meet its goal of addressing health disparities (i.e., diseases, disorders, and conditions), discussing medical topics, and focusing on environmental health issues.

Project Highlights

NLM and ORISE: A Unique Partnership Dedicated to Reducing Health Disparities
In 1987, ORISE first began its partnership with NLM to show health professionals how to navigate the maze of information contained in NLM's environmental, toxicological, and medical databases. Learn more about how our courses and special outreach efforts have helped to put critical health information into the hands of those who may need it most.

Health Information Access Training for Tribal Populations
ORISE the delivers hands-on training, "Empowering Tribal Communities with Health Information." This course is customized for each Tribal community and demonstrates how to access medical and patient education information via the Internet.

Additional Projects that Illustrate Our Successful Outreach to Special Populations
Read brief summaries of our work on minority perceptions of public health issues, racial and ethnic adult disparities in immunization, and prevention of carbon monoxide poisoning among immigrants.
