GIMC serves as a referral center for all hospitals on the Navajo Nation, as well as, primary and acute care services for the
Indian population of the Gallup service area serving an eligible area population in excess of 200,000.
Purpose Statement:
Pharmacists completing this residency will be proficient and confident practitioners of direct patient care in multiple
patient-care environments. They will be accountable for achieving optimal drug therapy outcomes as members of the health care
team. These pharmacists will exercise skill in educating other health care professionals, patients, and the community on
drug-related topics. They will demonstrate professional maturity by following a personal philosophy of practice, monitoring
their own performance, exhibiting commitment to the profession, and exercising leadership in managing the medication-use system.
Rotational Experience opportunities:
Inpatient and outpatient clinical pharmacy services are provided for internal medicine, surgery, family medicine, orthopedics,
ENT, intensive care, pediatrics, and ob-gyn. Primary care experience is provided by pharmacy-based anticoagulation, asthma,
cardiology, compliance, diabetes, pain management and nephrology clinics. Drug information and administrative activities include Pharmacy and
Therapeutics committee, ADRs, formulary management, medication usage evaluation, continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities
and budget management.

Situated at an altitude of 6500 feet, the high desert climate allows for the enjoyment of many outdoor recreational
opportunities.
