Indian Health Service

Give Us Two Years...
and we'll give you the experience of a lifetime.

This is your chance to practice medicine in the purest sense and to truly perform the services as professed by the Hippocratic Oath. A position with the Indian Health Service is a rare and enriching experience which will allow you to work in modern facilities with state-of-the art equipment and some of the most caring people on Earth. Our physicians actively seek the rewards that can only come from such a unique and challenging experience.

We practice family medicine on a personal and human level delivering truly needed primary care with an emphasis on prevention. The variety of medical cases and diverse professional opportunities coupled with the relaxed rural setting and rich culture are only the most obvious benefits. What can be gained in personal fulfillment is entirely up to you.

You will encounter medical problems from preventive care to childbirth to major trauma, sometimes all in the same day. The Indian people you will reach have no alternative health care provider and desperately need health care and health education. Each case will present a new challenge and come with gratifying personal rewards.

The rewards extend beyond the purely altruistic. You can practice free from the administrative hassles of a privately owned and managed office.

There are no start-up or maintenance costs and no equipment costs. An Indian Health Service physician does not have to be concerned with turning a profit, or wondering if a patient can afford treatment. It is a rare opportunity to be allowed to concentrate only on the humanistic aspects of medicine.

Salaries are based on a 40-hour workweek with paid overtime, annual leave totals 13 days, and 13 days of sick leave are earned each year. Through provisions of the Federal Tort Claims Act, Indian Health Service physicians are given freedom from Tort liability in the performance of their official duties and therefore do not require malpractice insurance. Also available is an Indian Health Service loan repayment program of up to $30,000 per year for approved participants.

The relaxed pace of life allows many Indian Health Service physicians to enjoy more time with their families and personal pursuits. A career with Aberdeen Area Indian Health Service offers a truly fulfilling quality of life and an abundance of professional challenges. It is your chance to practice high quality medicine in state-of-the-art facilities and to care for people who will otherwise go unattended.

All the unique history and culture of a people rich in family and community . . . all the freedom to practice medicine in its purest form . . . all in the beauty and serenity of the Northern Plains. Give us two years, and we'll give you the experience of a lifetime.
