Research Supplements to Promote Diversity
in Health-Related Research for
Undergraduate Students
This supplement enables principal investigators
with eligible NHLBI research grants to include undergraduate
students in their projects. Priority is given to applications
requesting support for students with disabilities and/or from
underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.
The research proposed for the student must be part of
the approved research for the parent grant or a logical extension. The student
must be given opportunities to interact with other individuals on the study, to
contribute intellectually, and to enhance his or her research skills and
knowledge.
The program is designed to support undergraduate students
who are interested in biomedical or behavioral research and
who will devote at least 2 years (two 3-month periods) to
the program. Support should be requested for at least 3 months
during any 1 year.

grant

applications since the program requirements and receipt dates do not change
significantly from year to year.

Stipend: $10 per hour for salary. Supplies,
travel (up to $1,000 for travel to scientific meeting(s) or
between home/school and worksite), and other up to $2,400.
