Child Development Centers
Who is Eligible for this Program?
Coast Guard Child Development Centers Program is available to
the following members of Team Coast Guard:
- Active Duty, Reservists, Retirees and their dependents
- Civilian Service employees (appropriated and non-appropriated)
- Exchange System and MWR employees
- DoD and other Federal Employees
- DHS contractors
Purpose of Program
The purpose of the Child Development Center Program is to
provide onsite quality child development programs at an affordable rate to
children of Team Coast Guard parents.
Program
Confidentiality
Discussions of the information provided to enroll a child in a Child
Care Program are revealed only to persons with a need to know as defined
in the privacy act statements that accompany the enrollment forms.
All discussions between a parent of a child enrolled in the Child
Development Center Program and the Child Development Center Director and
staff members are confidential, with the exceptions as indicated above.
Definitions
The following definitions apply to the Child Development
Center Program:
- Child Development Centers are facilities that provide on a regularly scheduled basis, developmentally appropriate programs designed to foster social, emotional, physical, creative, and intellectual growth to groups of children from age 6 weeks to six years of age. Before and after school programs and summer programs may be provided on a space available basis.
- Developmental Programs are planned programs of activities that are appropriate for the age and development level of the children involved. These activities promote the social, emotional, physical, creative and cognitive development of children.
- Accreditation is an acknowledgement earned by a child development center that it meets standards of quality child care set by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
- The Parent Committee is a group of persons with an interest in child development programs, the majority of whom are parents of children attending child development services programs. This is not a policy making group, but a group that may provide recommendations for improving the operation of the center. The committee also supports the center through participation in field trips, holiday events, playground improvement and other special activities.
