Antibiotic Resistance Education
description
The Oregon Alliance Working for Antibiotic Resistance Education (AWARE) is a statewide coalition promoting the appropriate use of antibiotics in Oregon by educating the public and supporting health care providers in making judicious prescribing decisions. The partnership includes physicians, healthcare providers, public heath agencies, higher education representatives and consumer/community based organizations.

Read our mission statement.

October 6-10, 2008 is Antibiotic Awareness Week. We remind all Oregonians to use antibiotics as prescribed and to remember that antibiotics are not effective in treating viral infections such as the common cold or the flu.

During Antibiotic Awareness Week, medical care providers and students will be at Rite Aids and other selected store pharmacies around Oregon. They will be offering educational information and advice on the proper use of antibiotics. Be looking for them at stores in Beaverton, Hillsboro, Southern Oregon, and the Oregon Coast.

Also, during this week, be looking for a special flyer about antibiotic resistance education that will be put in your grocery bag when you pick up medications from your local pharmacy!

Are you an Oregon health care professional interested in increasing your community's knowledge of appropriate antibiotic use? Join Oregon AWARE!
