Continued Relations with China
On June 19, Michael Erwin, Patuxent ecologist with an adjunct professorship at the University of Virginia, met with three scientists from the People's Republic of China to discuss prospects for a University of Virginia - Nanchang University cooperative agreement and exchange program. Professor Wenbin Zhou was the key contact. He is President and Director of Key Laboratory of Poyang Lake Ecology and Bio-Resource Utilization. The others included Dr. Hang Guo, Vice Director of the Beijing Research Center of Nanchang U., and the third was Dr. Ru Zhang, a visiting scientist (to University of VA's School of Engineering). Dr. Zhou may be an important connection for the avian influenza research project that Patuxent is currently engaged in, as Poyang Lake is one of the study sites being used in the Chinese study.
