As part of the ongoing evaluation of the Advanced Encryption Standard candidate algorithms, NIST performed randomness testing for each of the candidate algorithms that were submitted for consideration.
In June 1998, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) X9F1 (Financial Services Industry) approved the creation of a standard addressing the needs for random number generation.
