1996 Unsaturated Zone Interest Group Meeting

USGS scientists and their partners held the 1996 meeting of the Unsaturated Zone Interest Group (UZIG) in Las Vegas, Nevada, September 24-26, 1996. The objectives of the meeting were to provided an opportunity for scientists to meet and share unsaturated zone research results in an informal setting, and to receive feedback from a diverse audience on work in progress. USGS scientists as well as scientists from the Department of Energy National Laboratories attended the meeting. Presentations at the meetings included information on topics such as:

  • Hydrology of the unsaturated zone in fractured rock
  • Modeling unsaturated zone flow and transport
  • Methods for measuring and estimating unsaturated hydraulic conductivity
  • Using isotopes as natural tracers of unsaturated zone flow
  • Heat and water flow in the unsaturated zone
  • Flow and diffusion of gases in the unsaturated zone
