About the FishAmerica Foundation
The FishAmerica Foundation serves as the conservation
and research projects arm of the American Sportfishing
Association, and is a leader in efforts to protect
and restore the Nation’s fisheries habitat, thereby
increasing the opportunity for sportfishing success.
The American Sportfishing Association is a non-profit
industry trade association organized to ensure healthy
and sustainable fisheries resources and increase sportfishing
participation through education, conservation promotion
and marketing.
About the Partnership
In 1998, NOAA Community-based Restoration Program
formed their first three-year partnership agreement
with FishAmerica Foundation by jointly funding over
$750,000 of fisheries habitat restoration efforts nationwide.
The partnership continued with new 3-year partnerships
formed in 2001 and 2004. From 2001-2004, over $1.7
million of NOAA funds were matched 1:1 by FishAmerica
Foundation to help communities implement coastal and
marine habitat restoration projects at the local level
to benefit the nation's fisheries. Through this partnership,
over 200 restoration projects across the country have
been funded since 1998.
Request For Proposals
FishAmerica Foundation annually requests proposals
from public and private organizations and local, state
and tribal governments to fund projects that result
in on-the-ground habitat restoration and clearly demonstrate
significant benefits to marine, estuarine or anadromous
fisheries resources. Projects must involve community
participation through an educational or volunteer component
tied to the restoration activities. FishAmerica also
requests that applicants strive for a 1:1 non-federal
match (cash or in-kind) on project proposals.
