LT Blakeley Denkinger Named PHS Emerging Dietitian of the
Year
LT Blakeley Denkinger completed her dietetic internship at the National Institutes of Health and joined the staff as a Clinical Research Dietitian in the fall of 2001. Since joining the staff, she has provided clinical care for cardiology, cancer, neurology, pediatrics, pulmonary, and liver patients. In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she is an associate investigator on 5 research protocols and has co-authored 2 articles and 10 abstracts. She also develops and administers research diets served out of the Metabolic Kitchen to research study participants.
Since joining the Public Health Service in 2004, she has become involved in many PHS related activities. She was selected to represent her BOTC class as the commencement speaker their graduation ceremony in 2004. She has served on the NIH promotion ceremony committee for the past three years and served as aide de camp to the Deputy Surgeon General in 2004 and the Surgeon General in 2005. Blakeley was also the representative for the Dietitian Category on the PHS Recognition Task force in 2004-05 and drafted part of the advisory document to the Surgeon General. In January, 2006 she was invited to participate in the DHHS Secretary’s announcement of the Transformation of the Public Health Service. Finally, she was deployed for Hurricane Katrina/Rita relief to College Station, Waco, Marlin and Austin, Texas in the fall of 2005 where she provided assistance to evacuees from the Gulf Coast. Blakeley has been selected to be the food/transportation logistics officer for the PHS RDF-2 team from the Washington DC area and is looking forward to providing assistance to those in need in the future.
LT Denkinger will be completing her Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in epidemiology from the George Washington University this summer. She received the ADA certificate of training in Adult Weight Management earlier this year. Currently, she is serving as the Corresponding Secretary for the District of Columbia Metropolitan Area Dietetic Association.
LT Denkinger is committed to providing excellent clinical care and research service at NIH and to playing a role in the advancement of public health science throughout her career.
