The annual Fishermen's Fall Festival in Seattle, Washington (http://www.seattlefishermensmemorial.org/events.php) takes place in September, celebrating the return of local fishing fleets. The festival, a full-day free outdoor event on the boardwalk at Fishermen’s Terminal, is a fundraiser for the Seattle Fishermen’s Memorial. AFSC’s RACE Division has participated in this event for many years, in a tradition begun by former RACE Director Gary Stauffer.

Outreach volunteers bring information about NOAA’s mission to the local fishing community and other interested members of the public. Throughout their summer cruises, RACE scientists collect an assortment of commercially important and other interesting fish, and preserve them on ice for displays at the festival. Volunteers from RACE are on hand throughout the day to answer questions about the AFSC’s work and provide fun facts about the fish.
