The future may be "plastics from coal" along with other valuable fuels and chemicals as a result of one of the Energy Department's most successful Clean Coal Technology projects. The Liquid Phase Methanol project in Kingsport, Tenn., has completed its government co-funded demonstration period, running as trouble-free at the end as it did when it began operating more than five years ago.
