Washington Gov. Chris Gregoire

  • $13.1 million to fund the Washington State University and PNNL jointly promoted Bioproducts, Sciences and Engineering Laboratory.
  • $5 million to bring infrastructure to the Horn Rapids Triangle, construction site of the Physical Sciences facility research complex.
  • $1 million to fund high-speed computer connections between Tri-Cities and Seattle, increasing the amount of data PNNL can exchange with the U.S. and international science communities by several hundred times current rates.

The Washington State Legislature has been very supportive of PNNL's future campus plans, indicating the Laboratory will be one of the economic drivers for diversification within the state. The State Capital Budget allocated $13.1 million for the Washington State University and PNNL jointly promoted Bioproducts, Sciences, and Engineering Laboratory—a facility Governor Gregoire calls, "One of the wisest investments we can make in Washington state."

The Legislature also allocated $5 million to the city of Richland to bring infrastructure improvements—water, sewer and power—to the Tri-Cities Science and Technology Research Park at the north end of Richland, which includes PNNL and its proposed new facilities.
