HARVEST SEASON BEGINS; MOTORISTS AND FARMERS MUST SHARE THE ROAD
Farmers are also reminded to get overweight permits

As harvest season gets underway throughout Illinois, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and Illinois Department of Agriculture today (IDOA) are reminding motorists that tractors and farm equipment are out on the roadways.
truck permit If you think your grain truck may be overweight for it's class, truck permits can be obtained from IDOT. These IDOT vehicle permits are only valid for roads under their jurisdiction. See this IDOT site for route information. Remember to also check with your county highway department and township office....it is advised that you contact your county clerk or highway superintendents before you hit the road to the local elevator.

GOVERNOR BLAGOJEVICH ANNOUNCES GRANTS TO INCREASE EXPORTS OF ILLINOIS FOOD PRODUCTS
Funds will enable Illinois food companies to expand their advertising and promotion budget in overseas markets

The Branded Program reimburses participants for up to half of their international marketing and promotional expenses including the cost of foreign trade shows, international travel, advertising, product demonstrations, point-of-sale materials, and package and label modifications to meet foreign import requirements.

The Illinois Department of Agriculture has arranged to offer a free pesticide container recycling program this summer.

The market will be held in the Commodities Pavilion on the Illinois State Fairgrounds every Thursday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 26 through Oct. 30, except Aug. 7 and Aug. 14.
Agriculture License plateAG LICENSE PLATE SOON-TO-BE AVAILABLE
Once 850 people have registered for the new plate, the Secretary of State's Office will start issuing the plates. The agriculture specialty plate will have a higher fee than regular plates, with the additional fee going to the Illinois Agriculture in the Classroom fund.

Vaccination recommended to protect horses from potentially deadly virus

During the 1999-2000 outbreak, 38% of the horses that contracted WNV died or had to be euthanized. So, I recommend that horse owners make sure their animals are properly vaccinated.

  • EMERALD ASH BORER CONFIRMED IN ILLINOIS
    Illinois Department of Agriculture activates state response plan to eradicate the exotic pest; urges public to learn the signs of EAB infestation and promptly report suspected cases

    A destructive, non-native pest that feasts on ash trees has been detected in northern Illinois. The Illinois Department of Agriculture announced today that a beetle found in the yard of a Kane County home east of Lily Lake is an emerald ash borer (EAB).

    The Bureau of Marketing and Promotion's Grown from the Heart in the Heartland Cookbook represents a collection of recipes highlighting Illinois food products.
