Zerline Johnson September 8, 2002

My name is Zerline Johnson I live in New York City where I use

both bus and subways each and everyday. Although I don't stand at the edge of any curb or platform waitng of the bus or train to arrive, there are times when with the help of my guide dog I have had to walk near the edge of a platform or curb because of construction or whatever might be blocking my way so that I might be a safe distance from the edge. I urge you to pass the bill or sign it if it comes before you to make the markings at the curbs and edges of platforms a must. You don't have to be blind or visually disabled to fall but to have that marked edge or curb is very much a reminder that "I" am close and should either stop or step back if possible. I've loss friends because of no markings and they lost their way. Thank you for your time in reading this and your help in this very important mater.
