Take Precautions Against Law Enforcement Impersonators in San Joaquin County
Recently there have been four incidents involving traffic stops conducted by individuals impersonating law enforcement in San Joaquin County. Unmarked vehicles, commonly used by law enforcement, displaying a solid red light and flashing headlights were used during these incidents. Unfortunately, emergency equipment can be purchased online. Laws are currently being changed to prevent online purchases from citizens.
County residents are being urged to take the following precautions:
If you are being pulled over by an unmarked vehicle (1) look for the red and blue lights. (This equipment is to be sold to law enforcement agencies only). (2) Drive to a well lit and populated location before coming to a stop, shopping centers etc. (3) If you have a cell phone, call 911 and confirm that you are being pulled over by a law enforcement agency. (4) Slightly roll down your window and ask for pictured identification.
