Implementation Update

The Department continues in its efforts to initiate Self-Directed Services (SDS) in California. However, implementation of this new service option is dependent upon approval of the Department's federal SDS Waiver application by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and promulgation of SDS regulations. The Department filed an SDS Waiver application with CMS on April 2, 2008 and is awaiting approval. The next step in the regulations process will be an opportunity for public review and comment. The Department will post on this website updated information about significant events and the timetable for implementation of SDS as soon as it becomes available.
