Information About DDS

The Department of Developmental Services is one of 12 departments and one board comprising the California Health and Human Services Agency. With a budget of more than $4.3 billion, the department provides services and supports for approximately 193,000 children and adults with developmental disabilities and 29,000 infants at risk of developmental delay or disability. These services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with twenty-one nonprofit agencies called regional centers. In addition, the regional centers are currently providing diagnosis & evaluation services to approximately 9,000 children under 36 months of age. (See Monthly Consumer Caseload Reports for additional information.)
