Next Steps

With the support of external partners and the Select Panel, the CDC will continue to promote preconception health and care with providers, policy makers, and the public in accordance with action steps that have been agreed upon for each of the recommendations. Next steps will include convening workgroups to further define and develop the content of preconception care. The workgroup meetings are planned for June 2006 in Atlanta, GA. In addition, the MCH Epidemiology Journal will publish a supplement on preconception care which includes over 30 articles discussing the various aspects of preconception health and preconception care such as: policy, finance, current practice, domestics and international programs, and the scientific basis for various recommended components of preconception care interventions. In June 2006, CDC will convene workgroups to further define and develop the content of preconception care and identify interventions, roles and responsibilities of clinical care providers, public health workers and for consumers.
