General Guidelines for Preventing Transmission

  • Respiratory Hygiene/Cough Etiquette in Healthcare Settings (Dec 17, 2003)
    Should be incorporated into infection control practices as one component of standard precautions

  • Hand Hygiene in Health Care Settings
    Hand hygiene (i.e., hand washing or use of an alcohol-based hand rub) should be performed after contact with a patient.

  • Guideline for Isolation Precautions in Hospitals (Feb 18, 1997)
    Intended primarily for use in the care of patients in acute-care hospitals, although some recommendations may be applicable for some patients receiving care in subacute-care or extended-care facilities.
