Medicare & Medicaid

In 1965, the Social Security Act established Medicare and Medicaid, national health care programs that benefit approximately 75 million Americans. Medicare provides health coverage to almost all Americans aged 65 or older, as well as people with disabilities who qualify for assistance. Medicaid provides access to health care services for certain individuals and families with low incomes and resources.
