Gulf of Alaska

The word Alaska is from the Aleut Indian word "alaxsxaq" or "agunalaksh"; which means the mainland or shore.

The Gulf of Alaska is a broad inlet of the North Pacific on the south coast of Alaska, U.S. It is bounded by the Alaska Peninsula and Kodiak Island and Cape Spencer. The coast is deeply indented by fjords and other inlets, including Cook Inlet and Prince William Sound. Rivers, Susitna and Copper, empty into it.
