United States Department of Agriculture.
"USDA provides assistance for losses that result from drought, flood, fire, freeze, tornadoes, pest infestation, and other calamities."

USDA. Joint Agricultural Weather Facility; United States Department of Commerce.
Provides current agricultural weather information and produces numerous reports, such as the Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin and the United States Drought Monitor.

 Drought and Water Availability
USDA. NAL. Water Quality Information Center.
Offers a dynamic search of NAL catalog (AGRICOLA) article citations on drought impacts on agriculture, from 2000 to the present. Try a book citation search from 2000 to the present.

Preparing for Drought in the 21st Century
National Drought Policy Commission.
Published in May 2000, "presents the basis for national drought policy and calls for commitment and resolve in providing sufficient resources to achieve the policy goals."

"Leads the development and transfer of water and climate information and technology which support natural resource conservation."

 National Drought Mitigation Center
University of Nebraska - Lincoln.
"Helps people and institutions develop and implement measures to reduce societal vulnerability to drought. The Center stresses preparation and risk management rather than crisis management."
 National Integrated Drought Information System (NIDIS)
DOC. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
Ensures "collaboration between different government agencies on drought-related issues." Envisioned by the Western Governors' Association.

Climate Prediction Center
DOC. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
One of NOAA's Centers for Environmental Prediction, it serves "the public by assessing and forecasting the impacts of short-term climate variability, emphasizing enhanced risks of weather-related extreme events, for use in mitigating losses and maximizing economic gains."  Drought Conditions
DOC. NOAA. Hydrologic Information Center.
Provides links to recently issued drought statements put out by National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Offices. Also find links to drought-related maps and real-time and background information.
 Institute for Water Resources (IWR)
United States Army Corps of Engineers.

"Formed to provide forward-looking analysis and research in developing planning methodologies to aid Civil Works programs." The IWR produced the National Drought Atlas.
 Extension Disaster Education Network (EDEN)
Louisiana State University.
"This site serves primarily Extension agents and educators by providing them access to resources on disaster mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery that will enhance their short- and long-term programming efforts." Learn more about drought.
 International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA)
Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research.
"Committed to the advancement of agricultural research, ICARDA aims to improve the welfare of poor people and alleviate poverty through research and training in dry areas of the developing world."
