VR & E Partners
Partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of
Labor exists on a national as well as local level. VR&E Service and Veterans
Employment and Training Service (VETS) work together in partnership to provide
direct job service to Ch31 participants.
The Department of Veterans Affairs and Department of Defense formed a close
partnership in 1991 that addresses the adjustment needs of disabled service men
and women through the Disabled Transition Assistance Program (DTAP). This
partnership affords disabled service members access to VR&E at an early point
of transition from military to civilian occupations.
The Compensated Work Therapy Program of Veterans Health Administration and
VR&E partnership works by bringing transitional and permanent jobs to
veterans who may be returning to the workforce following medical rehabilitation.
For eligible veterans this partnership can provide vocational rehabilitation
that combines work and training for new job skills.
Partners provide a variety of important services in combination with the VA
vocational rehabilitation program that can help with adjustment to disability in
the work place, enhance self-awareness, and connect people to employers.
The major national partners of VR&E include the Veterans Health
Administration - Hospitals, Clinics, Vet Centers, Veterans Industries, the
Department of Labor's Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS), the
National Veterans Employment Program, the Department of Defense Transition
Assistance and Disabled Transition Assistance Programs (DTAP). These major
partners have staff who are accessible to veterans and VR&E locally.
VR&E staff may also enlist the help of additional state or community
partners that are unique to a particular community or area.
