Program Activities
The mission of the Office of Nuclear Fuel Supply Security is to address the nuclear fuel supply security issues facing the United States, particularly in the areas of uranium enrichment. The responsibilities of the Office of Nuclear Fuel Supply Security include the following:
- Provide advice on policy issues related to commercial aspects of uranium mining, milling, conversion, enrichment, and fuel fabrication.
- Monitor nuclear fuel market issues involving implementation of the US/Russia HEU Agreement and associated implementing agreements.
- Publish an annual report to Congress on the effect that the US/Russian HEU Agreement implementation is having on the domestic uranium mining, conversion and enrichment industries.
- Manage policy activities that support a stable and economic nuclear fuel supply.
- Monitor implementation of the DOE/USEC Agreement dated June 17, 2002 and oversee ORO regulatory staff responsible for USEC activities at Portsmouth and Paducah gas diffusion plant sites.
- Present policy recommendations that support responsible management of Department uranium inventories.
