An Analysis of Motorcycle Helmet Use in Fatal Crashes
This report examined motorcycle rider helmet use in fatal crashes during the period 1997-2006. The following factors were most highly correlated with motorcycle rider helmet use: the existence of a motorcycle helmet law in the State where the crash occurred, the motorcycle rider's age and blood alcohol concentration (BAC) at the time of the crash, the engine size of the motorcycle, and whether the crash occurred at night or during the day. The report used both exploratory data analysis and logistic regression models to relate motorcycle rider helmet use to various crash factors.
