Introduction to Visibility

A pictorial guide to visibility starting from the fundamental principles for visibility impairment and causes of regional haze to aerosol concentration and trends.   Many of the concepts are dynamically illustrated using animated figures.

Exploring Visibility Concepts

An interactive tutorial that guides the user through a number visibility concepts and issues including the impact that haze has on a scene, the nature of light and how it colors what we see, particulate matter that comprises the haze and regulations addressing haze issues.  This tutorial requires the Adobe Flash Player plug in which can be found here.

  Visibility Trend Report - This document is the visibility chapter from EPA's 1997 National Air Quality and Emissions Trends Report.  The report presents an overview of the visibility regulations, causes of visibility impairment and trends in visibility.
