Implementation
Team
The Southwest team strategy focuses on the preservation and restoration
of coastal wetlands. As much as 90 percent of California's native wetlands
have disappeared due to urbanization and development. Another focus of
the SWRIT is the restoration of closed military bases located along the
coasts. The Monterey Bay Aquarium was designated as a Coastal Ecosystem
Learning Center in 1997.
