Current Conditions

Campgrounds

Many of the campgrounds on the Mt. Hood National Forest are now open.  However due to unusually late and heavy snow, many campgrounds at the higher elevations are still closed.

Campers with reservations for campgrounds that are closed due to snow will be notified by the reservation system and given the choice of rebooking to an open campground, or receiving a full refund.

Fire Danger: HIGHPlease check our website or local Ranger District Offices for the latest information on specific campground status.

Water Safety

As weather turns warm and hot, visitors to their national forest should be aware that spring run off and melting of snow is beginning in earnest causing streams to rise and run fast and cold.  Although all visitors should always keep safety in mind when near bodies of water, caution is especially important during times of spring run-off when water is exceptionally fast and cold.

ROADS :  CLOUD CAP ROAD 3512 IS CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE Many roads to the west of HWY 35 and east of Bluegrass Ridge continue to be closed to motorized traffic with signs and /or gate:  Forest RD 3520 system :  3520 and the following spurs :  620,622,623,670,671 and Forest RD 3500-671.  These roads were washed out by the November 2006 flood and remain closed.

SNOW, ETC...The north side still has some snow patches between about 4800-6500ft.  Most will not cause you to lose the trail; but snow poles are advised to help you get through the worst areas.  Mud is also an issue.

WATER CROSSINGS:  Crossings are not too high right now.  Always use poles to check depth, loosen your pack in case you need to let it go.  Morning crossings are lower; and sometimes if you go upstream just a little way, you will see where other hikers have made easier crossings.  If we get any rain - expect to see an almost immediate effect on the crossings.
