General Engineer
Job Description General Engineers at the NIH develop designs, plans and specifications for a wide variety of projects. Engineers advise on, administer, supervise, or perform research or other professional and scientific work involving the application of engineering fundamentals as the strength and strain analysis of engineering materials and structures, the physical and chemical characteristics of engineering materials, and engineering methods of construction. General Engineers are responsible for the development of preliminary and conceptual design processes as well as the detailed design of facilities, systems, structures, or equipment, and provide expert technical advice and direction to contractor professionals. These positions require professional knowledge of the concepts and principles of general engineering to resolve problems, extend and modify techniques, and/or apply new, innovative, or experimental general engineering theories; knowledge of advanced mathematical techniques; and the ability to analyze and evaluate scientific engineering problems.
