Job Description

NIH Architects perform professional scientific work to conceptualize, plan, develop and implement designs for a wide variety of structures and facilities, including office buildings, medical clinics, and state-of-the-art medical research laboratories, using architectural design standards, codes, and practices, as well as creativity, to extend or modify architectural methods or techniques.  Architects at NIH ensure that structures are responsive to the unique needs of advanced medical research, structurally sound, aesthetically pleasing, and economical to operate and maintain.  Professional architectural work requires knowledge of architectural theories, concepts, methods, and techniques; creative and artistic sense; and the understanding and skill to use aspects of construction, engineering, and physical science related to the design and construction of new or the improvement of existing buildings.
